Yes, I will accept the nomination as President of Après for the 2008/2009 term.  Here is what I stand for:

Après has been a great club in the past but times have changed and the club is now facing a crisis of dwindling membership, which is currently below 300.  This is due to a number of factors, some of them which have nothing to do with any actions or lack of action on the part of the Après Board Of Directors.  But since club members are electing to discontinue membership at a higher rate than ever before, it is clear that if the club is to survive into the next decade, there will need to be some changes made to the current model, which is not working.

During my term, I propose to undertake a thoughtful examination of the club's policies so as to identify and discard that which is no longer serving us and to put more emphasis on actions which will ultimately strengthen the club's membership and financial position.  This will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Smaller Board of Directors -- a BOD of 16 members is appropriate for a club with membership in the 500-1000 range, but for a club of less than 300 members, we're too top-heavy and it's impacting our ability to achieve a quorum at BOD meetings, which in turn prevents our being able to make any meaningful decisions on club governance.  I propose, and would like the current BOD to vote into practice prior to concluding their term year, a BOD of 9-11 individuals. This would allow us to make decisions with a quorum of 5 or 6 individuals.

More individual participation to plan/run events. This may involve either:
a) greater incentives to those running events, or
b) a service requirement for every member, with financial disincentives to those who elect not to meet the minimal service requirement.

More interaction and joint events with other clubs and organizations.
More outreach to potential club members.
More marketing to the outside via media, web and other marketing channels.
