Bike Ride on Sun. April 27, was a GREAT DAY!!
by Bonnie Patterson
About 13 of us met in San Francisco at PacBell Park around 9:30. A few stragglers like Bonnie and Connie!! But our friendly group waited. We headed out along the waterfront. The Embarcadero is wonderful, wide sidewalks and nice bike lanes. Rode past the Ferry Building, checking out the nice new stalls for the Farmers Market. Passed Justin Herman Plaza and up to Pier 39. Parked our bikes, walked around and of course watched the sea lions. Some bought Swiss chocolate, yum! yum! From there we rode up passed Fisherman Wharf, a little crowded there. A detour to the Buena Vista for a quick Irish Coffee. Some did the Hyde Street Pier. Met back at Aquatic Park and rode out to the Muni Pier to watch the flotilla of boats since it was opening day of the yachting season. Some beauties, like the old Chris Crafts, so elegant and some very colorful sails boats!!! From there we rode along the Marina Green and watched kite flying, joggers, and roller bladers. Then up the hill to Fort Mason. After catching our breath, some popped into Safeway for a sandwich, then on to the Palace of Fine Arts for a needed rest (sore buns). Had a lovely picnic under a weeping willow tree pretending we were some place in Europe with the back drop of Greek or Roman columns and Italian houses in the foreground. What more could one ask for, beautiful friends, weather, scenery? Ahhhhh! Then off to Chrissy Field the Presidio and GG Bridge. By then it was about 3:30, time to head back to PacBell Park just in time to miss the wind and rain.
And thank you all riders for making this such a fun day. Let's do it again on Canada Road on a Sunday when it's closed and BBQ at Bonnie's afterwards.
