Highly successful, 2003 Work Weekend by John Griffin Photos by Ray Muggli It was another perfect fall weekend at the lodge and we had a good turn out for the sometimes annual and sometimes semi-annual work weekend. We got a lot done, and our photographer Ray Muggli, managed to captured the group mostly during the party phase of the weekend. See photos We did some interesting things this year, like build a raccoon barrier to keep the critters from going under the cabin. That was accomplished by Roger Koos and Bob Alders with consultation by Jack Laird. This was job was a lot harder than it looked, but they made it look easy. Meanwhile, Jack while not consulting, also was busy installing a "No-frost hose bib", his name not mine, in the back of the cabin for our future hot tub. He made that look easy too. Then there were the painters. Room four got a thorough painting including a special treatment on one of the walls by Sandra Kiyomura. Come up and see it some time. The room painters were Sandra, Peggy Malone and jack Laird. We also painted the beds in rooms three and four. This was a very tedious job and it took Helga Campbell and Bonnie Patterson most of the day. Later, they were assisted by Anna Scherl, who had been doing windows before picking up her paintbrush. It was nice outside and they all seemed to be well engrossed in conversation. While all this was happening Doug Weaver was putting in the snow stakes and doing some digging around the lodge foundation. Steve Stanton was fixing some lighting in the living room and installing a motion light on the ski shed. And Tom Van Bogart after assembling stools was fighting the never-ending battle of the uncooperative mini blinds. As you might expect from a Marine, in the end, Tom won. Rebecca Hubble, Anna and Wivine did a lot of general cleaning and organizing with Mary Martin fitting in laundry excursions between blind and window cleaning. Ray spent most of the day in between painting dressers, running back and forth to the hardware store and helping people locate things that only he could find. The whole place was really humming with activity as Wivine started the dinner preparations. We had Wivine’s now famous lemon, parsley salmon and tri-tip with Mary’s Bourbon marinade, BBQed by Ray, with baked potatoes, salad, and sautÈed veggies. And yes, we had wine and beer. Everyone was quite impressed and quite satisfied. Did I mention pie and ice cream? Yum. Now, at this point in time, you might wonder what I did all day. Well, it’s a secret. Many thanks to all and to all, A Good Job. |
