Quasi Wimbledon in San Jose Tennis Tournament

July 22, 2006 in spite of record high temperatures was a great day for Apre’s Tennis group.
Tournament at Del Mar high school had six courts full, with 12 man and 12 women. The format
of play, of moving winners to the right and losers to the left, allowed players to have new
partners and opponents in each set. The winners are: #1 woman: Annie Bryan, # 2 Laurie Heron,
# 3 June Thomas. # 1 man: Gary Calhoun, # 2 Ron Fox, # 3 Ray Cirimele. Certificates and awards
were presented at the party. Bobbie prize went to Judy Etherington. Thanks to Georgiana Rudge
for fruits at courts. We are sorry for Tom Riley withdrawing from play due to spray muscle.
Party
About 40 people showed at Cloria Vandermate estate to eat, drink and socialize. Swimming pool
was very popular and BBQ steak tended by Bill Bartz, the president, was great.
Thanks to Shirley Taylor, Ray, Cloria, CJ Priest and Howard Foster for buying stuff.
Thanks to Liz Frank for water, enthusiasm and help. Special thanks to Bill and Liz for
tents providing shade, coolers and to Ed Martin for guidance. Cloria, you are wonderful
hostess thanks. Thanks to all participants!! Seems that we all had good time.
